Dr. phil. Dr. h.c. Markus Guggenheim (1885-1970) was head of the scientific division of Roche in Basel and founded the Dr. Markus Guggenheim-Schnurr-Stiftung for History of Medicine and Sciences in 1962.
The Foundation sponsors the Guggenheim-Schnurr lectures, the Henry-E. Sigerist Prize and is an important support of the Swiss Society of the History of Medicine and Sciences. The president and the treasurer of the Society are ex-officio members of the Foundation.
